Description:	A tree of medium size, or a liane, initially an epiphyte. Leaves arranged in spirals, lamina 8−16 × 3−7 cm, usually broadest in the middle, apex acuminate, base emarginated to subcordate, chartaceous. Figs 1 to several together on spurs in the branches or sometimes on the trunk; receptacle ovoid to subglobose, 2.5−4 cm in diameter.
Type location:	Zambia, Solwezi.
Notes:	Classification: subgenus Urostigma, section Galoglychia, subsection Caulocarpae.
Derivation of specific name:	ottoniifolia: leaves resembling those of Ottonia (= Piper)macrosyce: large fig
Habitat:	Swamp and riverine forest, occasionally in miombo woodland.
