Description:
Leaf held erect, lamina broadly ovate, the base cordate. The inflorescence a raceme with up to 17 flowers, the buds erect, the flowers nodding. Tepals 6, pale blue; anthers yellow.
Type location:
Zambia, hills between Lakes Tanganyika and Nyasa
Notes: The species has been grown in Lusaka for many years, on well drained, shallow soil requiring little attention, but in a rocky site inaccessible to molerats.
Derivation of specific name: johnstonii: After H.H. Johnston who collected the type specimen.
Habitat: Light shade, amongst rocks.
Altitude range: 750 - 1530 m
Flowering time:Nov - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Katanga Prov. of D.R. Congo, central Tanzania, Mozambique and NE Zambia.
