Description of the genus

Spikelets long-pedicelled, solitary, laterally compressed, loosely imbricate, 3-7-flowered, awned. Inflorescences of large panicles with spreading lax delicate branches. Glumes sub-equal, persistent, keeled, membranous, acute, prominently 5-nerved, scaberulous along the keels, glabrous. Lemmas similar to the glumes, 7-nerved, acute and shortly awned, keeled, glabrous and smooth except for the scaberulous keels and awns. Paleas slightly shorter than the lemmas, 2-keeled, hyaline, compressed, apex obtuse, base bulging out from the lemma. Lodicules 2, broadly cuneate.

Worldwide: One species in tropical Africa.
