Paratheria Griseb.

Description of the genus

Inflorescence loosely spiciform, bearing deciduous racemes appressed to the axis, each raceme composed of a single spikelet supported on a pungent stipe and subtended by a stout bristle. Spikelets lanceolate. Glumes tiny. Inferior lemma as long as spikelet. Superior lemma cartilaginous with flat thin margins.

Worldwide: Two species in Africa and South America.
