Description of the genus

Inflorescence comprising several distichously arranged racemes on an elongated central axis; racemes delicately incurved when dry, terminating in a naked bristle, the spikelets subsessile, contiguous, spreading at right angles. Spikelets 6–12-flowered, laterally compressed, disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets; glumes membranous, shortly awned at the apext; lemmas membranous, dorsally rounded, ciliate on the margins. Caryopsis ellipsoid, with free pericarp.

Worldwide: One species in Zambia and the southern part of D.R. Congo.
