Notes: Graminoid; Notes: Tufted, perennial grass up to 0,75 m high when in flower. Culms ascending to strongly geniculate at base, often rooting from prostrate nodes, upper nodes conspicuously crimson-banded. Rhizome globose, surrounded by densely velutinous leaf remains. Leaf blade lanceolate, 200 x 10 mm, usually expanded blue-green with margins whitish glabrous although margins appear minutely setulose, hard and scabrous to the touch. Ligule inconspicuously fimbriate. Leaf sheath blue-green to red-purple tinted, shallowly canaliculate and white-ribbed, finely pubescent, loosely circumculmate, basally imbricate, overlapping, 5 cm long. Inflorescence a relatively dense panicle, narrowly ovate in outline, 160 x 50 mm. Raceme 50 mm long, ascending, not rigid. Spikelet stalked, ovoid to slightly cucuform, 1 cm long, densely pubescent, awned. Glumes membranous, green-ribbed, persistent.
