Description:
Trailing perennial. Culms up to 100 cm long with leaves lanceolate to narrowly ovate. Inflorescences with a distinct rhachis up to 3 cm long. Spikelets 2-4 mm long, in pairs, hairless to sparsely pubescent; awns smooth and sticky, longest 3-14 mm.

Derivation of specific name: hirtellus: finely and minutely hairy
Habitat: Growing in shade on the forest floor of evergreen forest.
Altitude range: 1000 - 1800 m

Worldwide distribution: Pantropical except most of Asia.
