Description:
Inferior glume of sessile spikelet pubescent to villous; pedicelled spikelets also sometimes villous.
Type location:
Notes: The pilose sessile spikelets, southern bias in distribution and higher altitudes reached in parts of its range are all that justify maintaining var. macra as a distinct taxon.
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: In grassland on stony hillsides, dambos and wooded grassland.
Altitude range: 1070 - 1700 m
