Herb.
Subsp. sylvestris: Culms 50─113 cm long, 2.8─4 mm wide. Leaves 36─53 cm long, 9─13 mm wide; glumes 1.9─3 mm long, 1-3─1.6 mm wide, scabrid near the apex.
Type location:
Angola
Notes: C. laxus subsp. laxus is native to the American continent. Subsp. buchholzii (Boeck.) Lye is recognized as a second subspecies in central Africa by some authorities. Its status in Zambia may be clarified when the FZ account is published.
