Description:
Rhizomatous or stoloniferous perennial 30-90 cm tall; stems somewhat distant to more crowded, with stem bases ± woody, thickened into bulb-like swellings 4-10 mm wide often covered with fibrous remains.
Type location:
Ethiopia
Notes: The rhizomes are eaten by the Toka people, and by guineafowl and springhare (B.L. Mitchell).
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: Common in open woodland, grassland which is dry, seasonally wet or permanently boggy.
