Description:
Small epiphytic herb, forming small colonies of closely spaced pseudobulbs. Pseudobulbs near spherical, often slightly broader than high, 10 - 25 mm in diameter. Leaves 2, fleshy, spreading, elliptic, up to 4 cm. Pseudobulbs and leaves are often coloured deep purple, particularly in more exposed situations. Inflorescence pendulous, borne from the base of the pseudobulb. Flowers fleshy, arranged along a swollen rhachis, small, straw-coloured, with maroon spots.

Notes:
Derivation of specific name: elliottii: after George Francis Scott-Elliot (1862-1934), Scottish botanist who collected in South Africa.
Habitat: In high rainfall Brachystegia woodland and along the margins of evergreen forest.
Altitude range: 600 - 1600 m
Flowering time:Mainly Feb - Apr
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in tropical and South Africa
