Common names:
Status: Native
Shrub or multi-stemmed small tree with drooping branches. The leaves are lobed for about half the length, as is typical for this genus. The flowers are bell-shaped, yellow, often with a dark maroon center; the pods are woody, up to 14 cm long, covered in velvety hairs.
Type location:
Sri Lanka
Derivation of specific name: tomentosa: tomentose, densely woolly (pods)
Habitat: Deciduous forest, woodland.
Altitude range: Up to 1000 m
Flowering time:Nov - Feb
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in Africa from Ethiopia southwards to KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa; also in Malaysia.
