Description:
Tree up to 12 m of more high, evergreen, glabrous. Branches erect in young trees, lower branches pendulous in mature trees. Leaves opposite, borne on short spurs, stiff and leathery. Sexes on separate trees (dioeceous). Flowers borne on cushions at the nodes, petals yellow. Fruit and orange drupe, with a single seed.

Derivation of specific name: livingstonei: named after the legendary Scottish explorer David Livingstone (1813-1873)
Habitat: Riverine forest, limestone sinkholes
Altitude range: Up to 1050 m
Flowering time:Aug - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Senegal to Nigeria; Ethiopia and Uganda to Angola, Namibia, Botswana and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
