Description:
Small to large deciduous tree, typically broader than tall. Bark on trunk deeply fissured. Branchlets with pitted scars, becoming thickly corky with age. Leaves 16-32 × 7-13 cm, spread out along the stems or clustered at the apex of the stems, oblong to broadly-elliptic, becoming glabrous above and with pale, sometimes brownish hairs beneath. Flowers in axillary spikes, cream or greenish-white, strong-smelling. Fruit 6.5-12 × 2.5-5.5 cm, 2-winged, densely hairy, pale yellowish-green, occasionally slightly pink-tinged, hanging in heavy conspicuous masses, becoming pale brown when dry.
Type location:
Notes: This species is very similar to T. stenostachya. See that species for the differences.
Derivation of specific name: mollis: soft
Habitat: Munga and chipya woodland, and wooded grassland, seasonally inundated floodplain. Not cultivated.
