Perennial 25-75 cm tall, arising from a single obliquely descending scented white or pink soft tuberous rhizome, which eventually produces a new plant at its tip, up to 10 cm from its parent which subsequently dies after flowering; internodes slightly swollen. Inflorescence a simple or compound panicle, with 10-30 glomerules of (1-)2-6 spikelets; glumes pale to blackish-brown. Nutlets grey with darker longitudinal stripes, ovoid to globose. Nutlet smooth or almost so; inflorescence more open, sometimes branched twice. |
