Description:
Small shrub, 1-3 m tall. Branchlets densely pubescent. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets obovate to oblanceolate, up to 3.5 cm long, acute at the apex with a small recurved mucronate tip, densely gland-dotted on both surfaces; margin entire. Flowers in dense axillary and sub-terminal heads; standard white to pale mauve-blue with a darker purple centre or purple veining; keel purple with yellow glands at the tip. Pod up to 7 × 4 mm, papery, minutely velvety.

Notes:
Derivation of specific name: foliosum: leafy, referring to the crowded leaves towards the branch ends.
Habitat: Montane grassland, evergreen forest margins and along edges of lakes and streams.
Altitude range: 1980 - 2135 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Kenya, Tanzania and the Nyika area in Malawi and Zambia.
