Slender shrub, up to 2.5 m high. Stem slender, erect, unbranched, green, terete with dense indumentum (scabrid yellow hairs with red-brown podia). Leaves alternate, paripinnately decompound; stipules paired, broadly deltoid, apex acute, brown, membranous; petiole 1 cm long, characters as for stem; rachis as for petiole; lamina lanceolate, somewhat falcate, up to 12 x 1.5 cm; pinna ovate, 8 x 2 mm, apex apiculate, base oblique, margin entire, glabrous, subsessile, tend to fold closed along rhachis. Flowers large, showy, 35 mm in diameter, borne in axillary racemes; peduncle : 15 cm, characters as for petiole; pedicel 1-2 cm long. Petals golden yellow to orange. Sepals 5, green, broadly ovate, pubescent. Stamens and stigma not well exerted. Fruit: a pod, up to 100 x 6 mm, flattened, slightly falcate, apex apiculate, clearly constricted between seeds so as to appear segmented, glabrous.
