Common names:
Status: Native
Shrub or small tree. Bark grey-green, flaking, exuding pale gum where damaged. Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets obovate, terminal leaflet at least twice the size of lateral leaflets, covered in fine velvety hairs on both surfaces; margin scalloped. Flowers small, in axillary clusters, reddish green. Fruit almost spherical, red when ripe.

(a) two varieties have been recorded: var. africana and var. rubriflora(Engl.) Wild.
(b) C. africana is similar to Commiphora schimperi which has hairless, glossy leaflets.

Habitat: In dry bush and woodland, often in rocky places.
