Description:
Perennial herb to 45 cm tall. Indumentum with gland-tipped hairs, especially in the inflorescence. Leaves petiolate; lamina with width almost equalling length, up to c. 2.5 × 2.5 cm, broadly obovate to flabelliform, dentate in the upper half to two-thirds; apex rounded or obtuse; base cuneate. Spikes terminal, many-flowered; bracts acute; bracteoles absent. Corolla creamy-white; tube 2-2.5 cm long, usually curved, abruptly expanded into a flat limb. Mericarps separating from one another when ripe, each with an oblique pit at the base.

Derivation of specific name: hederaceum: ivy-like, resembling Hedera in the leaf shape.
Habitat: In mopane and other mixed deciduous woodlands and in short grassland on sandy soil.
