As A. godseffiana. Untidy small shrub 1 m. Leaves light green with cream margins.

As A. godseffiana var. heterophylla Hort. Shrub 2m, with fairly loose, tall-rounded crown; ragged-looking with criss-cross branches and leaves with a shredded look, light green with whitish margins.

As A. wilkesiana. Shrub 4 x 2 m. New leaves unfold red-brown, with red veins above and below; darken as they mature, finally dull green brown.

Stems quite prostrate, weakly rooting at some nodes. Plant 0.8 m in diameter.

Shrub 3m, elsewhere observed at 4.5 m. Leaves very sharp-prickly. Flowers deep pink.

Tips of some fronds arching over and where they touch ground new plants develop

Tree 40 m. DBH 75 cm, heavily buttressed. Bark smooth, grey. Slash white, soft,wet. Underbark bright yellow.

Evergreen tree 15 m. DBh 70 cm. Bark brown, cracked in ± square flakes 3-4 mm thick; bark on branches less than 15 cm diameter is smooth. Crown spreading. Filaments white with pink on upper 1/3.

Spreading stems from woody root. Vexillum rose, keel off white tinged pink. Common. [Position estimated]

Plant erect, 0.4 m high. Name on the sheet is Amaranthus hybridus L. subsp. incurvatus (Trimen ex Gren & Godr.) Brenan which per POWO is a synonym of A. cruentus.

Herb. Flowers dark mauve/ light purple.

Evergreen climber wihout support, forms mass 2 m high by 3 m wide; leaves dark glossy green. Fruit shiny black, when ripe splits and reveals an orange "beard", is then eaten by birds. Calyx wine-red, reflexed below mature fruit.

Climber 4m, trained against building. Foliage dark glossy green. Flowers scarlet.

Leafless parasite with flexuous, brown, filiform stems. Flowers yellowish. Area sown to imported seed ex USA.

About 100 yds and 3 ft vertically lower a large colony of D. viride and a small one of D. longifolium. Bulb white, rest green. Part of scape with unopened flowers pendulous, becomes erect as they open. Ovary sessile, stigma club-shaped, style short. Base of filaments with shallow U-curve.

Cited in a draft account for Flora Zambesiaca of the Hyacinthaceae. Plant in flower.

Rounded shrub 2 m, said to be severely cut back annually. Flowers a delicate pink with a darker centre.

Unarmed shrub, spreading, 6 ft high. Branches brown. Leaves dull green above, silver below and with brown scales. Stamens 4, stigmatic surface part of style hooked.

Probably rhizomatous, many-stemmed shrub, regrown to 0.6 m after burn. Tufts of stems 1 per 2m sq. on area of c. 30 x 50 m.
